AILG’s new Research and Policy Officer position has been approved by the Staffing Review Committee. This follows a detailed and careful process over the past 12 months to ensure that we developed the right role and job specification to strengthen the support AILG provides to our members and to build our research and policy capacity for the years ahead. AILG is pleased to confirm that approval has been received to commence recruitment in September for a new Research and Policy Officer, representing an important further investment in the Association’s capacity to support our elected members across the country.
The new position forms part of AILG’s wider strategic vision to strengthen and enhance the services, expertise and professional supports available to our membership and to further develop the Association’s national policy, research and representative capacity.
Reporting to the Executive Director, the successful candidate will play a central role in establishing and developing AILG’s new Research and Policy Unit, helping to build a stronger evidence base and research service to inform AILG’s policy, advocacy and representative work.
The role will also provide enhanced research and policy support to elected members across the country, ensuring that the experience and perspectives of councillors are increasingly supported by robust evidence and reflected in national discussions on the future of local government.
The creation of this new position comes at an important time for Irish local government, with significant reform and implementation work ahead. It represents another positive step in strengthening AILG’s organisational capacity and ensuring the Association is well positioned to support its members and contribute meaningfully to the continued development of local democracy and local government in Ireland.
