Who We Are

The Association of Irish Local Government (AILG) is a national representative body for Ireland’s 949 city and county councillors and their member local authorities.

Since 2014, the AILG have been given an education and training remit from the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage to provide and ensure that local authority elected members receive appropriate and relevant training and development as they govern Irish local authorities currently and into the future.

Through regular interaction with other stakeholders in the local government environment the AILG works with its nationwide delegates to ensure that the contribution of Ireland’s democratically elected councillors is appreciated in Government Departments and throughout the full range of public agencies.

The AILG Officer Board comprises of our President, Vice President and Past President.

The Association holds an annual AGM where the delegates elect a President, Officer Board and a National Executive Committee. Our delegates are responsible for setting the strategy and policies of AILG, which are then implemented and delivered through our Officer Board and Executive Committee.
