The Association of Irish Local Government (AILG), in partnership with the County and City Management Assocation (CCMA) is delighted to announce the official launch of our Counselling and Welfare Services for our Elected Members.
Local Councillors’ frontline role in the public arena brings its own pressures and this has
been more prevalent than ever during the current Covid-19 crisis. These pressures can
impact on a Councillor’s mental health and well-being and it is therefore imperative to the
AILG to have services in place to support our members as they navigate the issues which
impact on their daily life as a public representative.
Currently many Local Authorities have counselling and welfare services in place for staff, and following a recent meeting between the AILG and the CCMA, both organisations agreed that this service should be extended to include our Elected Members.
Elected Members can access the counselling & welfare service’ free of charge by
speaking directly to their Local Authority.
