We are pleased to share the AILG 2025 Annual Activity Report, reflecting on another year of significant progress, advocacy and engagement on behalf of councillors across Ireland. During 2025, AILG continued to place local democracy at the centre of national discussions. This included securing meaningful councillor representation on the Local Democracy Taskforce and ensuring that the voice and experience of elected members informed the Taskforce’s discussions and decision making. The Association also continued to advance other key priorities, including advocating for improved councillor supports and safety measures, while further expanding our training and education programme for members nationwide and building our staff complement.
The report also highlights important developments including the launch of a new accredited micro-credential in Spatial Planning with Maynooth University, the rollout of our Communications and Engagement Roadshow, and continued engagement at European and international level to strengthen the voice of Irish local government.
