AILG made double history yesterday by not alone electing its first female President but also holding its first online AGM due to current public health guidelines.
Galway County Councillor, Cllr. Mary Hoade, has been elected President of the Association of Irish
Local Government at its annual AGM which took place on the 28th October. Joining Cllr. Mary
Hoade at the helm is Cllr. John Joe Fennelly from Laois County Council who was elected as Vice
President at yesterday’s online meeting.
Speaking following her election, Cllr. Mary said it was a huge privilege to assume the role of
President for the Association for the year (2020-21) “I am proud to be given this opportunity and as
President I will continue to progress towards fulfilling our vision of a thriving local government
system in Ireland with the Elected Members at its centre, serving and delivering for the public.
Our mission statement as an Association is to “represent and support the role of our elected
councillors. We are a strong voice for local communities through effective local government.”
