‘Preparing and Making Local Area Plans: Driving Urban and Rural Regeneration’

Presentation 1: Overview of the Local Area Plan Preparation Process and Developing a New Generation of Local Area Plans for Kildare
The first presentation during this webinar will provide an ‘Overview of the Local Area Plan Preparation Process and Developing a New Generation of Local Area Plans for Kildare’.

Delivered by Amy Granville, Senior Planner with Kildare County Council.

Amy’s presentation will summarise the principal steps, set out in current planning legislation, for preparing and making Local Area Plans. She will describe both the preparatory work and the practical application associated with these steps by reference to Local Area Plans in Kildare that have successfully worked through the public consultation process and the OPR review.

 

Presentation 2: Turning Local Area Plans into Reality: Cork County Council’s Experience in Implementing Local Area Plans
The second presentation will focus on ‘Turning Local Area Plans into Reality: Cork County Council’s Experience in Implementing Local Area Plans’.

Delivered by Pádraig Moore, Senior Planner with Cork County Council.

Pádraig’s presentation will focus on the practical and challenging aspects of the implementation phase of Local Area Plans by reference to Cork County Council’s experience.

Pádraig will highlight the importance of grounding Local Area Plan preparation in thorough analysis of infrastructure and development delivery needs. Pádraig’s presentation will set out the key role that Cork County Council’s Housing Infrastructure Implementation Team (HIIT) plays in implementing policy and delivery housing infrastructure in key urban expansion areas. He will also address mobility and active travel measures.

 

Presentation 3: Linking Local Area Plans and National Programmes Supporting Town and Village Renewal
The third and final presentation will focus on ‘Linking Local Area Plans and National Programmes Supporting Town and Village Renewal’.

Delivered by Senior Personnel from the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage/Department of Rural and Community Development.

The presentation will focus on the growing range of measures, being put in place by Government, to support the revitalisation of towns and villages, through active land management, the Croí Cónaithe scheme, serviced sites, URDF funding. The presentation will highlight how the Local Area Plan process can support a hands-on approach to urban renewal.

The above presentations will be followed by a Q&A session.
